Platform Engineer
Vill du bygga en hållbar, digital infrastruktur?
Kivra isn't just an app, it's a critical national infrastructure. Our Infrastructure team is the heart of Kivra, building and operating a large-scale, highly reliable platform that securely handles data for more than half of Sweden's population.
We're looking for a skilled Platform Engineer with a deep interest in Systems Networking. You are someone who views the network as code and enjoys the challenge of running high-availability Kubernetes environments directly on bare metal.
What you'll do
You'll play a key role in Kivra's Platform Engineering Team, working alongside experienced and supportive colleagues. Together, you'll build, operate, and continuously improve a platform where security, stability, and reliability always come first.
Your work will include:
Bare-Metal Kubernetes Orchestration: Architecting and operating multiple Kubernetes clusters running directly on HP and Supermicro hardware.
Low-Level Networking & SDN: Managing complex on-prem networking using Cilium (eBPF), BGP, Envoy.
Traffic Engineering: Designing and maintaining robust load-balancing strategies and ingress patterns for high-traffic microservices.
Infrastructure as Code: Driving automation and lifecycle management of physical and virtual assets using Terraform and Ansible.
Developer Enablement: Building internal tooling and deployment pipelines that empower developers (YAML, Python, Go, Erlang, Cuelang) to ship to the platform safely and efficiently.
Distributed Systems Reliability: Ensuring data integrity across systems such as Riak, PostgreSQL, Redis, and Strimzi Kafka.
Hardened Security: Maintaining a strong security posture across Linux systems, IAM, and physical network segmentation.
Operating and improving monitoring, logging, and alerting using Grafana, Mimir and PagerDuty.
Our technical landscape
Our platform is built on:
Platform: Kubernetes running on self-hosted bare metal (HP and Supermicro).
Networking: Cilium (eBPF), BGP, Envoy, Cisco, and high-performance Load Balancing.
Automation: Ansible, Terraform, and GitOps-driven workflows.
OS: Linux-based environments throughout.
Observability: Grafana, Mimir, and PagerDuty.
Data Layer: Strimzi Kafka, Riak, PostgreSQL, and Redis.
Who you are
Who you are, and how you contribute to the team, matters a lot to us. We thrive on being nice, helpful, and collaborative, both within the team and across the company.
We believe that you are someone who:
Has strong skills in Linux kernel internals and enterprise-level networking.
Has worked with Platform Engineering or SRE for several years, ideally in environments where you've managed the full stack down to the hardware.
Treats physical servers with the same automation-first mindset as virtualized resources.
Possesses a deep understanding of L3/L4/L7 networking and container-native networking challenges.
Cares deeply about security, stability, and service quality.
Takes initiative, values teamwork, and enjoys fact-based technical discussions.
Enjoys understanding distributed systems deeply and digging into the why behind failures.
Experience with networking, firewall management, databases, web applications, and container orchestration is a strong plus. The role also offers opportunities to specialize further within one or several areas of the platform.
About us
At Kivra we run large-scale Kubernetes clusters on our own hardware, combining bare metal with cloud in a way that gives us performance, control, and flexibility. If you enjoy solving hard infrastructure problems and understanding systems all the way down to the metal, you'll feel right at home here.
Your work will have a real impact. Kivra is trusted by millions of people across Sweden to deliver important and sensitive digital information, and the reliability and security of our platform truly matter. What you build and operate every day helps keep a critical piece of national infrastructure running.
We believe great engineering happens when people are trusted. You'll have a high degree of autonomy, real influence over architectural decisions, and the opportunity to shape how our platform evolves. We value strong opinions based on facts, healthy technical discussions, and people who take initiative.
We offer
Kivra offers a place in a committed team with the opportunity for a high degree of innovation. You will be involved in influencing Kivra's exciting business and product development of a service that is currently used by more than half of Sweden's population. We offer the flexibility that life sometimes requires, but we believe that collaboration and value creation happens best when we sit and work together from our office in central Stockholm.
We offer competitive remuneration and great benefits. Read more about our core values and benefits here: https://jobs.kivra.dev/!

About Kivra AB
Kivra is a better place for viktigheter. It was 2011, and things were as they’ve always been. Trees became pulp that became bills and flyers. The mail was picked up in small cars and then driven out to small post boxes – just as they always were. But wait a second. Was there really no better way, a bunch of digital innovators asked themselves. There was. They founded Kivra, which soon became something much bigger. We’ve evolved from a digital mailbox to a one stop shop for your important stuff. But it doesn’t end there. Along with our main owners 41 Invest and FAM, we’re constantly finding new smart ways to improve life – for you, society and nature.
