Analytics Engineer

Why are we looking for an Analytics Engineer?
Analytics at Kivra is decentralized, with analysts embedded within product teams. Our goal is to support analysts by providing a clear overall vision and governance for analytics - a goal you’ll be crucial in helping to achieve. We want to make the development experience for analysts fantastic and simple, by making data easier to work with. This is a new role in the Data Platform and Engineering Team, and you’ll be working closely with both data analysts and data engineers.
What you’ll do
-
Data warehouse design and data modeling
Drive the vision and implement the improvement plan for the raw/bronze and intermediate/silver layer of our data warehouse
Manage core analytics datasets and metrics (we have been exploring introducing a semantic layer, and your contribution to this would be vital)
Encourage good practices when working with dbt (our data transformation tool)
Implement data warehouse performance and cost improvements
Data documentation - ensure that our documentation is adequate and can support our data discovery, data quality, data lineage, and data science/AI ambitions
Introduce practices and methods of working with our analytics tools - e.g. templates for Tableau, organization and labeling structures for our dashboards and Hex workbooks, standardized macros for dbt etc.
Set up and encourage good practices for analytics at Kivra - e.g. good practices for writing SQL code, data modeling, orchestration, and working with personal data
Who you are
You want to join a fun, diverse and friendly team. You are a team player and enjoy working with other analysts and engineers. You want to build good relationships with your colleagues to understand their problems and challenges. You embrace “platform thinking” in your work - and strive to enable and support your colleagues, not block them. You are proactive, entrepreneurial and want to shape this role based on the opportunities you discover. You are curious, collaborative and like solving problems.
Furthermore we think that you:
Are easy-going, open and bring positive energy to your work and colleagues
Have at least 3 years of relevant experience
Have excellent knowledge of SQL
Have a good understanding of data modeling for analytics
Are familiar with dbt
Have experience with data orchestration
Have knowledge of good governance and documentation
Understand performance and cost optimization of cloud data warehouses
Are familiar working with version control
And it would be a bonus if you:
Are familiar with Google Cloud Platform and the data tooling there
Have a good understanding of Cloud Composer (Airflow)
Are familiar with Python
Have experience with writing tests to improve the quality of the data warehouse - e.g. for data quality, cleaning, validation, standardization, documentation
